ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

What if you could design just the perfect education for your student, what would it look like? At Northwest Academy we truly do put the student and their program first, whether they’re just starting on their journey through school or well on their way.
Dr. Loshbaugh, our schools executive director and cofounder, calls this approach to educating kids, “Designer Education”. The ultimate non-traditional private school experience, that really puts your student at the center of educational needs. We teach to  their specific learning style, differences, and strengths.

Student’s successes or lack of successes should never be determined by what pace a system needs to move. Students should never be expected to adapt their learning styles to “one” type of curriculum or method of instruction. It should always be based on the students needs.

If a student can move quickly through an area of study they need to be allowed that opportunity. Additionally, if they need to take more time to fully gain skill in another area, that needs to be honored as well. At Northwest Academy we understand what it means to be student driven and not curriculum driven.

We work one on one with our students in their homes. The amount of time we spend  is determined by the unique needs of the student, the students story and family. In some cases our teachers work with students on a daily bases, in other cases we only need to be with the student 2 hours a week. An example of this would be our extension program, for the student that is self-directed. We have students that are only taking one high school course with us. We also have students that are doing one grade level including all subjects. We teach all grade levels, K through 12th grade.  

OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

Our students include families whose needs include scheduling flexibility, perhaps they want to travel during the school year with their children.  Others enroll with us because they philosophically understand the unlimited gift of the non-traditional private school approach.  Additionally, many families find us because they have students that are falling through the cracks of the traditional programs and need the customized approach we bring to our work.  No two students, and or family needs are the same.

OUR SERVICES

Our expertise spans a broad range including students with a variety of learning disabilities, including writing, reading, math, ADD, ADHD, Dislexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalcia, and Aspergers. We also work with students that are suffering from depression and anxiety disorders. We also specialize in the gifted student that has the ability to accelerate his or her education.

• No state testing required to graduate (WASL)
• All Standard High School Subjects available
• Custom Designed High School Courses available upon request
